And by setting up contraception, and by extension women’s sexuality, in opposition to the free exercise of religion, the administration is sending another clear signal about whose humanity is moral and deserving of protection and whose is not.
Excuse me. The administration is not the one setting up this opposition. Compelled provision of birth control is a statement about the nature and purpose of sexuality, which is a moral and philosophical — in fact, a religious — statement. As such, it has to come into conflict with the free exercise of religion. If anything, the ACA set up the opposition by bringing up birth control in the first place.
And excuse me. Refusing to pay for someone else’s decisions is not the same as denying that their “humanity is moral and deserves protection”. If anything, it affirms their humanity and adulthood — i.e., responsibility for themselves. Freedom does not equal free stuff.
